Use Microsoft Authenticator for easy, secure sign-ins for all your online accounts using multi-facto
r authentication, passwordless, or password autofill. You also have additional account management options for your Microsoft personal, work or school accounts.
Getting started with multi-factor authentication
Multi factor authentication (MFA)provides a second layer of security. When enabled, during login after entering your password, you’ll be asked for an additional way to prove it’s really you. Either approve the notification sent to the Microsoft Authenticator, or enter the one-time password (OTP) generated by the app. The OTP codes have a 30 second timer counting down. This timer is so you never have to use the same time-based one-time password (TOTP) twice and you don’t have to remember the number. The OTP doesn’t require you to be connected to a network, and it won’t drain your battery. You can add multiple accounts to your app, including non-Microsoft accounts like Facebook, Amazon, Dropbox, Google, LinkedIn, GitHub, and more.
Getting started with passwordless
Use your phone, not your password, to log into your Microsoft account. Just enter your username, then approve the notification sent to your phone. Your fingerprint, face ID, or PIN will provide a second layer of security in this two-step verification process. After you’ve signed in with two factor authentication (2FA), you’ll have access to all your Microsoft products and services, such as Outlook, OneDrive, Office, and more.
Getting started with autofill
Microsoft Authenticator app can also autofill passwords for you. Sign-in on the Passwords tab inside the Authenticator app with your personal Microsoft account to start syncing passwords, including the passwords saved in Microsoft Edge. Make Microsoft Authenticator the default autofill provider and start autofilling passwords on apps and sites you visit on your mobile. Your passwords are protected with multi-factor authentication in the app. You will need to prove yourself with your fingerprint, face ID, or PIN to access and autofill passwords on your mobile. You can also import passwords from Google Chrome and other password managers.
Microsoft personal, work or school accounts
Sometimes your work or school might ask you to install the Microsoft Authenticator when accessing certain organization resources. You will need to register your device to your organization through the app and add your work or school account. Microsoft Authenticator supports cert-based authentication by issuing a certificate on your device. This will let your organization know that the sign-in request is coming from a trusted device and help you seamlessly and securely access additional Microsoft apps and services without needing to log into each.

Locked me out

By Helong_ios
This app is terrible it locked me out and whenever I got a new phone now at first I thought it would transfer data but no now it doesn’t work and because of this I was forced to waste $35 of my hard earned cash to reset everything like why Microsoft!? Not only that, whenever it says I need to sign in to my Microsoft account it says to enter the verification code sent to the authenticator app, but whenever I open the app it asks me for another verification code to view the code I need and there is no option to use my recovery email or anything what do I do?
How could Microsoft mess up authentication this bad?

I have to use outlook for my job and when I got a new phone and had to install outlook on my phone I had to use the Authenticator app from Microsoft to verify myself. So I downloaded it and when I try signing into Outlook it just opens up the Authenticator app instead and told me to put the number that was already on the Authenticator app on the Authenticator app never minding I was trying to open outlook. How could they mess this up so bad? Google Authenticator actually works like it should. This Authenticator app is a confusing mess that has no business being this messed up. I wish I could just use google mail because outlook is horrible too

This app was not helpful. Despite having my Authenticator set up through this app, my Microsoft account was compromised, my 2FA did nothing to help.

Doesn’t even work. I have to type in a code AND answer a phone call????? Guys this is too much. And after alll that I didn’t work and I couldn’t get into my account. Am I doing something wrong? Probably! But I blame the fact that none of the instructions were clear or explained
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE

This app is absolutely horrible and a waste of time and efforts. You can’t even properly use it!!! The app requires you to authenticate your account….through the app itself? What sense does that make? And don’t get me started on trying to use this app to authenticate your email on Microsoft outlook, you’d have an easier time finding a four leaf clover! Riddle me this, how exactly am I supposed to authenticate my student email through this app, while the number needed to validate the email shows up instead of the page to actually authenticate it? Despicable. Take this pathetic excuse of software back to the drawing board and try again
Inútil

I’ve apparently had my Authenticator account since 2014 (is what it says) however it wasn’t until the last year or two that I feel like I started being asked to use it. I got a new phone & now cannot sign in via the Authenticator app (it wants to use itself to verify, which obviously won’t work), cannot access my work email, Microsoft 365, online accounts, etc all tied to Microsoft as they require verification via the Authenticator app. And I cannot access the security features on the online copilot (one of the suggested workarounds) as it still requires verification via the Authenticator app. I’ve talked to multiple people at Microsoft (a feat of itself), & am going on a week with not being able to perform business duties as I cannot access my email. Terrible all around with little to no help from “support”.
Why god why
