Speechify – Text to Speech for iPhone

Can we put the subscription services to bed already? Who has hundreds to spend on an app ?

Seems like it will be good for me.

BEWARE. This company makes it almost impossible to cancel the subscription it you try the trail. It’s not worth $130.

So i would love to give this app a 5 star review for it’s features and ease of use. However. I was offered a free trial, used it for what i needed it for and promptly cancelled the free trial the following day. Apple subscriptions clearly stated this subscription was cancelled. Chaos ensued from there. Today. Sept 14 was to be the auto renewal date and i just got an email for a $139.00 invoice from speechify saying thanks for my subscription!!! I replied immediately letting them know i had not accounted the renewal but had actually cancelled two days ago! They then offered me half off to stay! Then when i quickly declined that and demanded my money back they wrote again to tell me my refund had been received and would take 72 hours to process. Then within minutes, another email to tell me my refund had been processed and another email with the -$139.00 invoice returning the fees to me. What on earth is this company up to?! All of that for a subscription i didn’t ask for and no phone number to call and ask questions. I still don’t know how they ended up with my debit card number if it isn’t even stored in apple pay. I would be cautious of this app and personally will not ever use them again just for the sheer inconvenience after the fact!

Imagine paying the price of a brand new TV every year to use half-baked AI voices that stutter and stumble over every word just to read your webnovels or whatever. A scam that also demands access to all your information and history for no reason. A text to speech reader shouldn’t do anything more than read the text on the page.

3 days free trial and then only a yearly subscription? Let’s as a group end these horrible business practices!

New to me, already know reading and listening aloud work well. Add well written notes and that’s my best version of retaining what matters most to me.

Contrary to their demonstrably FALSE ADVERTISING, you can't just snap a photo of a bookcover and instantly create an audio book. No. You nave to SCAN EVERY PAGE. You can Google it yourself- *AI Overview- The assertion that Speechify creates an audiobook from a single photo of a book cover is false. The app's Optical Character Recognition (OCR) feature requires users to scan or take a picture of every single page of a physical book for the app to read it aloud. This discrepancy between advertising and reality has been a frequent source of complaint for customers."

The app is stealing money from me. I signed up last year, accidentally purchased a full year’s subscription and it’s about to renew tomorrow except my account says I’m not paying for a subscription. How does that make sense?!
