Kate Quinn is becoming my favorite author, and Saskia by far my favorite narrator! The characters are multidimensional and Quinn’s writing style is so descriptive it feels like I’m there!

I would say that the author has in some ways created a textual analog of Mondrian but even so what he has done is excessive in its tedious and labored descriptions of Mondrian's work. How much can you say in an interesting way about Mondrion? not as much as the author thinks I am afraid and the result is a book that is so labored in its minute descriptions --repetitive to the point of madness--that I began to have deep empathy for the author and task which I assume was to fulfill a contract to write a long book on an artist who was short on words and even shorter on narrative interest and shortest of all in terms of the drama of his painting but he tries. Mondrian is interesting yes but the author does not really penetrate the surface in this book even as long as it is
