Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.
Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.
Open-Source Cryptography

Why do you never UPDATE your apps regularly? I pay good money for your service and these apps constantly hang all the time! Slow opening! On iPhone 16 Pro Max! Auto update is on but I manually check for updates daily.

Emails are suppose to be free. Why do I need to sign up somewhere to use my email? I wasn’t trading stuff I just wanted to get through this, and I wanted to be nice and give this thing a chance. I even download the app, usually your able to use email providers on the website for free no app downloading required but I gave it a chance and just tried to use it but no it didn’t let me use my email for what emails are for. You think if I wanted to use a email I would pay for it? I could send mail for free from any place, google, apple, yahoo, etc. but I need emails to get free stuff, and you have wasted my time, and I’m not happy. So I’m giving you a 1 star.

App performance has deteriorated for my family members, so this report covers multiple devices.
Notifications for new messages appear, but messages are not prefetched. The app opens and takes a long time to open the new message.
Pull to refresh performance is also impacted. Slow overall.

As much as I applaud Proton for their dedication to security and privacy the Proton Mail app for the iOS is fraught with problems. It is very unstable, freezes constantly, doesn’t respond to dictation, requires rebooting several times a day, and has too many problems for a simple mail app. In addition, messages inexplicably disappear and you can’t edit within the app with any ease because it freezes. Compose your email and a text editing program, correct for spelling and grammar, cut and paste into Proton Mail and keep your fingers crossed. it’s unfortunate that a well-intentioned mail program still contains numerous bugs.
