Reviews Microsoft Edge: AI Browser for iphone

  • Decent but can’t handle zoom links

As a default browser it breaks any zoom links you might have in your email, it thinks you need to install zoom even if you already have it, and won’t open the zoom app. You have to manually paste zoom links into a better browser to get them to open in zoom app.
  • Defective text-to-speech

When using Read Aloud with a seemingly stable high speed internet connection, Edge will intermittently display the message "switched to offline voice due to poor internet connection" and then continue to read the page using a (vastly inferior) offline voice. When this occurs there is no evidence of an internet service disruption and the problem has been observed while using various ISPs. Moreover, once the switch to offline voice has transpired, Edge will remain stuck in that mode for a particular tab until Edge is restarted. Note that this is specific to a particular tab—if one tab has switched to offline voice mode, Read Aloud can be started in another tab and will use the normal high quality online voice for that other tab. This bug first manifested with the recent upgrade to version 139. This is a very unfortunate bug in that it significantly degrades the user experience especially of the visually impaired. When functioning normally, Edge’s text-to-speech functionality was the best on the market and a real boon for users who by choice or necessity consumed audio renditions of text. I assume that Microsoft has has diverted significant resources to promoting Copilot (to the detriment of other features), but it would be a great service if Microsoft would spare the personnel to attend to this bug promptly.

Holding my passwords hostage so I’ll use your inferior web browser is a bad look. Will be cancelling all my Microsoft accounts and subscriptions.
  • iPhone Password still a problem

Edge used to be my favorite, but they still haven’t resolved the iOS password integration problems. Tired of it and deleting Edge and going back to Safari.

After this new update they took out the ability to swipe to close apps, and for that reason I’m switching.

EDIT: docked to 3 stars b/c TTS keeps switching to offline voice while connection is strong —— Review for your leading FREE text to speech. THANK YOU MICROSOFT. Could use a couple reader mode bugfixes but WOW thank y’all. — edit: hey ur privacy nutrition facts are scary, browsing history linked to me? User content used to track me?
