Overall, I like it— lately though, there have been a lot of ads that make content basically unreadable. With each scroll, sometimes without a scroll at all, an ad loads and moves the text. There’s definitely room for improvement.
Too Many Distractions

Waaayyy too many adds and other distractions that makes reading news nearly impossible at times.
The ads and other advertisements are often in popups. That, to me, is the most distracting of the ads. We're those placed on thenpafes of the news app, it would be less distracting.
Eventually, and unfortunately, I couldn't take it anymore. I deleted the app and went back to Apple News+, which is way more readable.
I understand that it is a paid app, but Google could do a better job in ad placement.

i come to this app to see unbiased news but every single article aside from the local stuff is just merciless shameless clickbait. omitting the only thing about the article you’d care about just to desperately frustrate you into clicking. very frustrating

Almost every news link takes you to a newspaper who wants you to subscribe for a monthly fee. So I read a headline then click on it just to be bombarded with subscription requests. Either be an actual news service or give it up.

Overall Google News is good. I won’t share all the positive. One dislike is that when stories are highlighted, you can’t tell which ones require subscriptions before you click on them. In Apple News, you can. This saves a lot of wasted clicks.

Sometimes what works, works and no need to change. But in 2026 i have no idea why 99% of the so called technology news in this app focuses on mobile phones and video games when AI is literally changing the world we live in

Good news source but 90% are hard left leaning propaganda stories or stories of real news that have a negative slant on the USA and the president. Customization can help you get at least a some stories with just the facts.
